Stropkov District: Hotels and Accommodation

Stropkov Manor House is the last surviving secular part of the vanished town castle. Its most valuable section is the so-called Knights’ Hall, which retains Renaissance features. The ground floor and attic are used for museum purposes.

Culture

The Franciscan complex in Stropkov is a national cultural monument and is listed in the Central Register of Monuments under number 245/1–2. The Renaissance tower of the Church of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ in Stropkov dates from the 16th century and was opened to the public after its restoration. The church tower has seven floors and is almost 55 metres high; small museum exhibitions have been set up on the individual floors.

For several years, Jubilárny Park has been a centre for craft markets during the Stropkov Fair. It includes a lime-tree avenue designed as a recreational zone, planted in memory of the festivities held there. Family Park Stropkov is an indoor playground. Attractions include climbing equipment, a trampoline, a doughnut slide, a slide into a ball pit, a toboggan and other toys. Traditional pilgrimages take place every year at Buková hôrka at Pentecost, for the Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord and for the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross.

The Driečna Village Museum in Driečna, a local district of Vladiča, presents the history and traditions of Rusyn rural life. The exhibitions are entitled “From Cradle to Grave”, “Temple”, “Socialism Room” and “Technology in a Cobweb”. In the municipality of Tokajík, the Museum of the Slovak National Uprising has an exhibition entitled “Fascist Repressions in Eastern Slovakia”.

The Jewish cemetery in Tisinec has 1,002 gravestones, which have been numbered, cleaned and re-erected. A field road leads to the cemetery; information boards in Hebrew and Slovak stand in front of it. The grave of the Stropkov rabbi Chaim Yosef Gottlieb (1790–1867), known as the Stropkov Rav, is located there and is still visited by believers from around the world. Above one of the municipalities there is a war cemetery that is a national cultural monument.

The Vladičské Waterfalls lie on the Driečna stream in the cadastral area of the municipality of Vladiča, near a blue-marked hiking trail that connects Driečna and Habura via the Klimov saddle.

Trails and Viewpoints

The lookout tower on Ščob above Stropkov offers views of the Ondavská vrchovina. From the Baňa settlement near Šandal, the lookout tower can be reached via an easy route of around 1 km in approximately 25 minutes each way.

Baňa Mountain reaches an elevation of 526 metres and can be accessed via several well-maintained hiking trails. From there, views extend to the Vihorlat Mountains with Sninský kameň, the Slanské Mountains, the Low Beskids, the Čergov Mountains, and the Ondavská and Laborecká vrchovina.

The Driečna–Puławy cycling route begins in Stropkov District at Vladiča–Driečna, is 203 km long and leads to Puławy in Poland; the Slovak section is 53 km long.
