Spišské Bystré: Hiking Route, Nature and Churches

A blue-marked hiking route begins in the centre of Spišské Bystré and leads south out of the village.

Nature

Since 1966, Spišské Bystré has been home to the 69-hectare Hranovnická dubina nature reserve. This protected area contains the northernmost original stand of sessile oak.

Culture

Spišské Bystré is home to the Roman Catholic Church of Saint Michael. It was originally Gothic and dates from 1306; it was remodelled in 1706 and extended in the Neo-Gothic style in 1926. Other religious buildings include several chapels. The Chapel of the Virgin Mary was built in the 19th century, stood behind the village and is now located on SNP Street. The Chapel of Saint Barbara was also built in the 19th century and stands on the road to Hranovnica. The Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk was built in the 19th century and stands next to the church in the centre of the village. The Chapel of the Holy Cross is located on the road towards Kravany.

The monument at Foľuš in Spišské Bystré is a wooden building with a water wheel that was used for fulling cloth.

Winter

The Kubašok Ski Centre has a ski and snowboard school. Lessons for complete beginners start at the children's lift; after a few hours, they move on to a larger lift.

Getting There

Spišské Bystré has no direct railway connection; the nearest railway station is in Poprad. Regular regional bus services operated by SAD Poprad provide access to the village from Poprad bus station and from the Dom kultúry and Nové mesto stops.
