Trebichava: Hotel, History and Nature
The Neoclassical village bell tower rises above Trebichava. It dates back to the early 19th century and is one of the village’s prominent historic features. Its bell was made in 1874 and is protected as a historic monument. Those who wish to get to know Trebichava not only through its landscape but also through concrete evidence of its past will find several clearly identified traces here from different periods.
Culture and History
Trebichava was founded on the basis of hereditary leasehold law. The first written record of the village dates from 1396. Another historic landmark is located in the center: in 1946, a memorial plaque was installed at the then fire station to commemorate those who fell in the Slovak National Uprising. In 1963, this memorial plaque was declared a national cultural monument. The bell tower, bell and memorial plaque thus combine architectural, local and historical-memory aspects within the village.
Landscape and Nature
Trebichava is located in the Slatinská brázda. The geographic landscape includes the Trebichavský potok, a left-bank tributary of the Bebrava. The area around Trebichava contains mountains ranging from more than 500 to 600 meters in elevation. The Kňaží stôl Nature Reserve stretches along the southern side of the area. Numerous medicinal and protected plant species grow there. The landscape can thus be viewed at different scales: from the stream and the village’s geological setting to the larger natural area on its southern side.
Hiking
The area around Trebichava is suitable for hiking. The easiest access to the Kňaží stôl Nature Reserve leads from Trebichava along a green-marked hiking trail. Mount Kňaží stôl offers views across the entire Bánovská dolina and its wider surroundings. The trail, protected area and mountain thus form a connected sequence of specific landscape features, without requiring any additional routes or distances.
Fruit Growing and Local Traditions
The handling of fruit is also part of the village’s traditional history. In the first half of the 20th century, fruit growing and drying fruit in fruit-drying kilns were characteristic of Trebichava. Traditional fruit-drying kilns have survived to this day. In addition, a roughly one-hundred-year-old fruit-drying kiln was reconstructed in Trebichava. The preserved and restored structures point to a craft and agricultural practice that shaped the village during this period.
