Zlatníky: Discover nature in the Považský Inovec and hotels

Zlatníky is located at the northeastern foothills of the Považský Inovec and along the upper course of the Livina stream. The municipal area of Zlatníky lies between 260 m and 975 m above sea level; in the village centre, the elevation is 270 m. This means that different elevations and a clearly structured natural landscape meet in and around the village.

Nature

The Kulháň protected area includes the site of European importance SKUEV0134 Kulháň. The Kulháň protected area is located in the Topoľčany District, in the cadastral area of Prašice, and in the Bánovce nad Bebravou District, in the cadastral area of Zlatníky, covering a total of 128.9765 ha. The species Bombina bombina, Cerambyx cerdo, Cordulegaster heros, Cucujus cinnaberinus, Lucanus cervus and Rosalia alpina are listed for the SKUEV0134 Kulháň site.

Trails and places to visit

The Duchonka-Kulháň nature trail is a self-guided walking route that can be walked in both directions, used in summer and winter, and classified as easy. The nature trail includes an arboretum and 14 marked tree species. The oaks in the Kulháň area are estimated to be 300 to 550 years old. One section of the Duchonka-Kulháň nature trail runs along the embankment of the former forest railway.

Kulháň Pond is suitable as a stopover or destination for cycling trips. At Kulháň Pond, there are farm animals and play facilities for children, including slides, carousels and swings. Two third-class state roads lead to Zlatníky and connect the village with all neighbouring municipalities in the district.

Culture and history

The bell tower was rebuilt in 1984 based on the model of the former structure. Inside the church are an altar painting of the Virgin Mary, Queen, the Stations of the Cross and a large wooden cross by the woodcarver Ján Chovan from Dekýš. Construction of the church began in July and August 1991; in October 1993, a confirmation ceremony with the solemn consecration of the church took place.

The history of the village also goes back a long way. A gold mine is already mentioned in a deed of donation from 1389. Another glassworks operated in the settlement of Kulháň from 1865; its production ceased in 1890. Until the middle of the 20th century, some residents of Zlatníky still made wheel spokes for wheelwrights.

Every year around 22 August, residents commemorate the church feast day with traditional church fairs.
