Kostolné between Two Mountain Ranges – Nature, Culture and Hotels

Kostolné lies between two mountain ranges. The Kostolník stream flows through the village. These two features alone place the municipality between a mountainous landscape and a watercourse, without losing sight of its other historical and cultural connections.

Landscape and Trails

The two Dubník I and Dubník II water reservoirs are located along the upper course of the Kostolník stream. Numerous hiking trails leading to Veľká Javorina run through the cadastral area of Kostolné. Thus, both a specific section of the stream and a clearly named hiking destination are associated with Kostolné.

Cycling connections are also among the area’s features. Kostolné has a cycling route beneath Javorina that connects Vaďovce and Stará Turá. Another short yellow circular cycling route connects the Dubník recreation centre with Kostolné. The Dubník I and Dubník II recreation centres offer opportunities for summer and winter sports. Different route connections and the centres’ year-round use therefore exist side by side, without requiring any further routes or access options to be inferred.

Culture and History

The Evangelical church, a landmark of the municipality dating from 1785, stands in the centre of Kostolné. The foundation stone was laid on 3 May 1784; the church dates from 1785, and the tower was added in 1802.

The older history of the village includes a cremation burial site of the Lusatian culture from the Late Bronze Age. The Pamätný dom provides another way of accessing the municipality’s history. This site originated as a long-uninhabited and dilapidated house and preserves its traditional character.

The Hrubá skala natural formation also connects landscape and memory. It lies on the boundary between the municipal areas of Kostolné and Hrašné and was a meeting place in 1848–1849 for Pastor Trokan with J. M. Hurban and Ľudovít Štúr. The region’s cultural history also includes its clothing tradition: the so-called Lubina folk costume style was worn in Kostolné, while the Myjava folk costume style was widespread in the Kopanice area.
