Trails and Routes

The Brestovec–Stará Myjava–Topolecká educational trail is 18.298 km long and has nine information stations. These stations focus on the natural wealth as well as the fauna and flora of the Myjava Hills and the CHKO Biele Karpaty Protected Landscape Area. This provides two different types of information for travel planning: the specific length of the trail and its thematic focus.

In addition, the blue Brestovec–Stará Myjava cycling route is approximately 15 km long. It passes through the Kopanice and offers views of the surrounding countryside. The Kopanice landscape around Brestovec consists of scattered settlements, meadows and forests that have preserved their traditional character. The route continues into the Czech Republic, into the Filipovské Valley. The two routes can be compared by their length and their respective landscape connections, without treating them as a single route. The educational trail’s 18.298 kilometres are given as an exact length, while the cycling route is specified only as approximately 15 kilometres; this difference in precision is part of the comparison, as are their different content and courses.

Natural Environment

The northern part of Brestovec’s cadastral territory is covered by White Carpathian forests. These forests provide a habitat for numerous animal and plant species and are used for tourism and recreation. The reservoir on the Myjava lies southeast of Brestovec and features extensive preserved woodland. It forms part of the Rieka Myjava natural monument. Thus, different landscape forms coexist in the surrounding area: forest areas within the cadastral territory and a reservoir with its own protected-area designation.

Culture and History

Several original vernacular residential and agricultural buildings from the 19th century have been preserved in Brestovec. The M. R. Štefánik Tunnel in the cadastral territory of Brestovec is 2,987 metres long. At the entrance to the M. Štefánik Tunnel there is a memorial plaque commemorating the people who lost their lives during its construction. The Tunel generála Štefánika is a technical monument from the period of the First Czechoslovak Republic. The Poľana lookout tower was removed on 17 August 2022.

Events, Transport and Sport

The Stavanie mája tradition takes place in Brestovec in spring; an edition was announced for 30 April 2026. The “Futbalové podujatie na Brestovci” was scheduled for July 2023, 2024 and 2025. Brestovec has a railway station on the Nové Mesto nad Váhom–Veľká nad Veličkou railway line. The multifunctional sports field in Brestovec can be reserved in advance for individual and team sports.
