Krajné: Landscape, Churches and Bobbin Lace

The Kopaničiarska settlement form in Krajné is associated with traditional forms of land management. The ecosystems that developed over centuries are considered particularly important ecologically.

The blue-marked Čachtický hrad–Šípkové hiking trail runs along the southeastern edge of the Krajné municipal area over the ridge of the Čachtické Karpaty.

At the northwestern edge of the cadastral area, the green-marked hiking trail between Mohyla pod Bradlom and Stará Turá passes through the traditional Myjava Kopaničiarska cultural landscape.

The two trails run along different edges of the municipal area: one follows the ridge of the Čachtické Karpaty, while the other passes through the traditional Myjava Kopaničiarska cultural landscape. Before setting out, marked hiking trails should be checked against current trail conditions and applicable notices. The Gothic Roman Catholic Church of St Michael the Archangel in Krajné was built around the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries. Narrow, steep stone stairs lead to the tower of the Roman Catholic Church of St Michael the Archangel in Krajné. “Reconstruction” is listed as a heritage conservation measure for the Roman Catholic Church of St Michael the Archangel. The Evangelical Church of Krajné was consecrated in 1784. Both churches represent different historical and denominational reference points within the village. Current opening hours should be checked in advance when planning church visits.

Krajnianska paličkovaná čipka, a form of bobbin-made tulle lace, developed its own distinctive motifs. It became a defining decorative element of the festive and ceremonial clothing worn by girls and women. The tradition of Krajnianska čipka in the Myjava Hills dates back to the 1880s. At that time, two lacemakers from Vamberk in the Czech Republic taught women in Krajné to make bobbin lace using Flemish and Vamberk patterns.

Krajnianska muzika currently presents traditional music and musical instruments, including the cimbalom.

Krajnianska prúdnica is an annual afternoon of competitions and entertainment organised by the Krajné Volunteer Fire Brigade. Pochovávanie basy was a long-established carnival ceremony and community event in Krajné on 5 March 2011. The two events and their formats belong to different areas of local community life. Current dates and times should be checked before travelling to events.

Krajné is connected to the regionally important Class II road No. 499 between Myjava and Piešťany. The road provides the transport link between the two named towns and the municipality.
