Domaniža lies at the transition between the Strážovské vrchy and Súľovské skaly, in the middle of the Domaniža Basin. Based on archaeological traces, the history of the locality dates back to the Late Bronze Age.

Culture and History

Domaniža is home to the Roman Catholic Church of Saint Nicholas, Bishop. It was declared a national cultural monument in 1963; its registration number is ÚZPF 710/1. The church stands on the southern edge of Domaniža at the foot of Leska Hill, above the valley. The remains of the enclosure of the historic cemetery have been preserved on its grounds, as have two of the originally three gates.

A Slavic settlement dating from the 11th to the 12th century was also identified in the Domaniža districts of Lazy and Brezné. The settlement of the locality therefore extends across several historical periods, with archaeological traces reaching back to the Late Bronze Age. The documented economic history includes various craft activities: historically, wooden vessels were made in Domaniža, linen, carpets and tablecloths were woven, and slippers, krpce and Haleny were sewn. Bricks and clay ovens were also produced in a factory built by Count Erdődy of Hlohovec.

Nature

The Strážovské vrchy Protected Landscape Area lies in the northwestern part of Domaniža's planning area. The second level of protection applies there. This protected landscape complements the locality's position between the Strážovské vrchy and Súľovské skaly with a clearly designated natural area.

Hiking and Cycling

The marked hiking route 2742 connects Fačkov with Kľak. The Domaniža–Fačkov section is marked by Považská Bystrica. The Domaniža–Kľak hiking route is 12.6 km long. The waypoints named on Route 2742 include Kľak, Pod Kľakom, Sedlo Malého Kľaku, Suchá dolina and Fačkov.

For cycling tourism, regional route 2304 is listed. It connects Považská Bystrica with Domaniža. Thus, in addition to the historical traces and the cultural monument, there are also specific, differently designated connections for hiking and cycling in the locality.
