Ďurďové between two mountain ranges

Ďurďové lies between the Strážovské vrchy and Súľovské vrchy mountain ranges. There are specific points of interest for days outdoors as well as for exploring regional history and products.

Landscape and Nature

The protected plants Slovak pasque flower and naked-stemmed cowslip occur in Ďurďové. Both plant names give the landscape a precise natural-history reference. The Strážovské vrchy and Súľovské vrchy mountain ranges form the spatial setting of the village.

Culture and History

The Chapel of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary is a single-nave Baroque-Classical building. It has a barrel vault and lunettes; its interior furnishings date from the 18th and 19th centuries. The chapel was reconstructed from 1988 to 1990. The building therefore reveals its architectural design, preserved furnishings and more recent restoration history.

The chapel thus provides several specific points of reference for a historical perspective: the building form, the named architectural elements, the interior furnishings assigned to specific periods and the reconstruction belong to different levels of description of the same building. They can be perceived separately during a visit without detaching the chapel from its local context.

A Slavic inhumation burial site from the period of Great Moravia was also discovered in the territory of Ďurďové. The village is additionally home to a wooden log-built bell tower from the 19th century. The historical occupations of the inhabitants included agriculture and basket weaving.

Outdoor Activities

Sport fishing is possible at the Ekoraj fishpond on a catch-and-release basis. Carp and trout can be purchased in accordance with the current price list. Visitors to the Ekoraj fishpond can use an equipped pavilion and toilets in the building above the pond.

Farma Ekoraj Ďurďové offers horseback riding for children and adults. A cycling route also passes through Ďurďové. An educational trail leads to the cross on Dolné skálie directly above the village. Salašková skala is another named hiking destination.

Regional Products

At the farm shop of Farma EKORAJ Ďurďové, fresh cow's milk, full-fat curd cheese, white full-fat yogurt, butter and the cheese “Kravské nite” are offered for personal collection.
