Trebatice – History, Sports and Festivals

Trebatice has archaeological evidence dating back to the Upper Paleolithic, including mammoth bones.

Geographical setting

Trebatice lies at the transition between the northern foothills of the Trnava Hilly Land and the Váh extension of the Danubian Lowland, on a terrace of the Dudváh. The geographical setting thus refers both to the transition between two landscape regions and to the Dudváh terrace as defining features of the locality.

History

The remains of a cult structure from the Late Bronze Age have been found in Trebatice, including fragments of a building gable decorated with relief ornamentation. Settlement finds from the 2nd and 3rd centuries attest to settlement in Trebatice during the Great Moravian period.

The Roman Catholic Church of St. Stephen the King in Trebatice is a Neoclassical church dating from 1851. Its main altar and pulpit date from the time the church was built. The Cemetery Chapel of St. Stephen the King is one of the small ecclesiastical monuments of Trebatice.

Local character

The inhabitants of Trebatice were mentioned as cabbage growers in 1753; they therefore received the local nickname “kapustári”.

At the 2023 Kapustové hody, a competition organized by the microregion was held for cooking kapustnica. Thus, in addition to the local nickname, a specific culinary event from Trebatice has also been recorded.

Sports and events

The Trebatice go-kart track was built on the site of a former brickworks, which was later used as a municipal landfill. The go-kart track offers go-kart rentals; official kart races of the MSR, Open Cup and Moravský pohár are also held there. The rental service and the named racing series represent different parts of the go-kart track's offering.

Areál zdravia is Trebatice's multipurpose sports and social center and has been in use since 2007.

Športové centrum Trebatice is a visitor-oriented sports facility with online reservations at Piešťanská 555/12, 922 10 Trebatice. It is open Monday to Friday from 06:00 to 21:00, and Saturday and Sunday from 07:00 to 20:00. The stated opening hours distinguish between weekdays and weekends, thereby providing two clearly defined time frames for planning a visit.

In addition to musical performances, Hody Trebatice features traditional fairground rides, refreshment stalls and craft demonstrations. Hody Trebatice is a festival; one edition took place on 15 and 16 August 2025 at AMK, and another edition is recorded for 2026. The program thus combines music, rides, refreshments and crafts within the same festival format.
