Krakovany: Lace, Hotels and History

Lace from Krakovany is made using five bobbins, is colourful and is described as unique in the world. Lace-making is done by bobbin lace-making and embroidery and is presented on various occasions, at exhibitions and abroad.

Location and History

The Holeška stream flows through Krakovany. Traces of settlement from the Neolithic period have been found in the municipality. A later period is visible in the Baroque Church of Saint Nicholas of Myra in Krakovany: it was built from 1770 to 1773 on the site of an older church dating from 1702.

In Stráže, a district of Krakovany, there are two richly furnished princely tombs of Germanic princes from the Late Roman Imperial period. A burial ground from the Migration Period was discovered in the brickworks in Stráže, also a district of Krakovany. The Church of Saint Gallus in Stráže is a Gothic church. The cemetery at this church has stone tombstones from the 17th and 18th centuries. Stráže is also home to a water mill from the 17th century.

Manor House and Wine

Chateau Krakovany is a historic manor house dating from 1736. At Chateau Krakovany, wines from its own production are tasted in the historic cellar of the manor house. Chateau Krakovany produces wine from grapes grown in its own vineyards; the wine is made at the manor house.

Events

The 58th Krakovany Folklore Festival in 2026 was scheduled to feature a programme full of traditions, music and dance from 26 to 28 June 2026: on Friday and Saturday at the amphitheatre and cultural centre, and on Sunday only at the museum.
