Rakovice: Hotels, Dudváh Terrace and Manor House

Rakovice is situated on a terrace of the Dudváh River and in the northern part of the Trnava Loess Hills. At the transition to the Váh spur of the Danubian Lowland, the village has a geographical setting in which landscape, architectural history, sacred architecture and local customs exist side by side.

History

The manor house in Rakovice was originally a Renaissance building from the 17th century. In 1856, it was rebuilt in the Neoclassical style. An English dendrological park was created next to the manor house in the same year, featuring a species-rich planting scheme. The building and the park are thus connected by their location and by the common year reference of 1856, but remain independent elements in terms of their function and historical classification.

Culture

The Church of St. Cyril and Methodius in Rakovice is a modern work of sacred architecture dedicated to Saints Cyril and Methodius. Its floor plan has the shape of a Byzantine cross with a polygonal termination. On July 8, 2025, believers in Rakovice commemorated the 20th anniversary of the consecration of the Church of St. Cyril and Methodius. The dedication and the distinctive floor-plan shape are among the defining features of the church.

The brick bell tower in Rakovice has a square floor plan and probably dates from the late 18th century. The statue of Saints Cyril and Methodius stands in Rakovice at the turnoff to the Church of St. The statue of St. Florian in Rakovice stands behind the triple Neoclassical gate at the entrance to the manor house park. The sacred landmarks are therefore located not only in the church itself, but also at named points throughout the village.

Leisure

Rakovice has a permanent disc golf course in the park of the SOÅ  Rakovice campus. The course is freely accessible and suitable for players of all experience levels. The church feast of Rakovice, known as Hody, usually takes place on the anniversary of the consecration of the local church. Disc golf and Hody thus represent a leisure activity and a church-related custom, each with its own form.
