Osuské: Hotels, Rieka Myjava Nature Monument and Cultural Monuments

Osuské combines the Rieka Myjava Nature Monument with several cultural and memorial sites dating from specific periods. The Rieka Myjava Nature Monument also includes the cadastral area of Osuské. It consists of three separate sections that together cover 27 kilometres of watercourse and, as a protected area, preserves an intact, meandering riverbed with typical stands of trees and shrubs along the banks.

Nature

Rieka Myjava is registered with an area of 34.9384 hectares; Osuské is also among its cadastral areas. A 30-metre-wide protection zone applies to a nature monument from its boundary. The Osuské Linden is a protected natural feature in the municipality of Osuské. The signposted Kopaničiarska cyklomagistrála cycle route no. 022, marked in red, runs near Osuské. The leisure route connects Záhorie and Považie via the Myjava kopanitsas settlements.

Culture and History

The Holy Trinity monument in Osuské dates from the 19th century. The Calvary group in front of the church in Osuské is a stonework dating from the second half of the 18th century. A chapel was built in Osuské in 1666; its construction was commissioned by Ján and Juraj Ďurišoví.

The church in Osuské was built between 1619 and 1631 and remodelled in the Baroque style in 1751. It has a brick-built organ loft dating from 1844. Statues of saints line Emanuela Lehockého Street in Osuské. Near the municipal office on this street stands a monument to the victims of the First World War.

Memorial Sites

The Jewish cemetery in Osuské lies on the right bank of the Myjava River. Fewer than ten gravestones remain there today; they are concentrated almost exclusively in a row along the western wall. The cemetery had an approximately square layout, with sides measuring about 15 metres. Remains of a stone enclosure survive along the entire perimeter as a continuous stone embankment.
