Čatež ob Savi offers a tangible connection to the landscape and local history. The Čateževa energijska pot is a circular trail that runs from Terme Čatež along the Sava embankment through Čatež ob Savi to the summit of Sveti Vid. Its route connects the riverbank, settlement and elevation in a clear sequence.

Nature

The Čateževa energijska pot reaches the Church of St Vitus at the highest point of Šentviška gora. From the bridge connecting Čatež ob Savi with Brežice, the confluence of the Sava and Krka can be seen. Špica at the confluence of the Sava and Krka is a viewpoint for photographers.

In the immediate vicinity of Čatež ob Savi are Goli Crnik, a mountain, and Goli Cirnik, a peak. The surroundings of Čatež ob Savi also include Plešivica and Ravnina, both mountains.

The landscape features complement the circular trail with different spatial references: the Sava embankment accompanies the route through the settlement, the summit of Sveti Vid marks its endpoint, and at the confluence of the Sava and Krka, the connecting bridge and Špica are two named viewpoints. Goli Crnik, Goli Cirnik, Plešivica and Ravnina expand this picture with mountains and a peak in the immediate vicinity or surrounding area.

Other places include Rajec, Brežice, Sromlje, Zgornja Pohanca, Žejno, Bizeljsko, Dobova and Pišece.

Culture

The origins of the Church of St George in Čatež ob Savi date back to the 12th century. At that time, a small wooden chapel stood there, which was later converted into a stone building and dedicated to Saint George. The construction of the church was led by parish priest Anton Križnar; Bishop Alojzij Wolf consecrated it in 1833. The development from wooden chapel to stone building and its later consecration mark several phases of its history.

The church contains a baptismal font dating from 1610. A stone milestone of Emperor Antoninus Pius dates from the period between 139 and 141 AD and is located in Čatež ob Savi. The partially reconstructed inscription is said to have indicated a distance of approximately 30 miles to the Roman settlement of Andautonia, present-day Šćitarjevo. The stone thus points to a historical connection extending beyond the local church history.

Pišečki grad, a castle, is located in the vicinity of Čatež ob Savi. In the wider regional surroundings of Čatež ob Savi are Novi Dvori and Medvedgrad, both castles, as well as Pleterje, a monastery.
