Hotels in Vransko: History, Culture and Trails

Vransko is a destination whose character is reflected in historic buildings, collections, festivals and routes. Historical architecture, everyday culture, technology and movement offer different ways of experiencing the place.

Geographical location

The market square of Vransko is one kilometre from the Ljubljana–Celje motorway section.

History

Vransko developed along the old Roman road between Emona and Celeia. The parish church of St Michael was first mentioned in 1123. It features a marble altar, a work by the renowned sculptor F. Robba.

Another historical focal point is Schwentnerjeva hiša. The distinctive two-storey market house from the mid-19th century is the birthplace of the publisher of Modernism, Lavoslav Schwentner, and is one of the central cultural institutions in Vransko. Almost all of the furnishings of the apartment have been preserved in the house; they illustrate the residential culture around the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.

Culture

The former storage building of Schwentnerjeva hiša houses the TIC Vransko tourist information centre and also serves as an event venue. TIC Vransko provides information about the natural and cultural heritage, events and leisure opportunities in the Municipality of Vransko.

An ethnological collection is located at the pri Knežari farm on the Brode–Vransko local road. It mainly displays agricultural and craft tools and preserves a complete smithy with individual tools that are more than 200 years old.

The history of technology is represented at the Muzej motociklov GROM. The museum preserves more than 150 restored motorcycles from Europe and around the world. It is located at Vransko 29, 3305 Vransko, Slovenia. Free parking spaces are available directly at the Muzej motociklov GROM.

Events

Every year on Shrove Saturday at 2 p.m., a carnival procession takes place through the market square in Vransko. On Holy Saturday, Easter dishes and Easter eggs are presented at a stall there; this is followed by a tasting and a social gathering at the stall.

Trails

Several routes lead from Vransko through the town and its immediate surroundings. The Schwentnerjeva walking trail is 4.3 kilometres long and leads from Vransko via Videm, Prapreče and Tabor back to Vransko; its starting point is Schwentnerjeva hiša. The Church-to-Church Trail is 27.8 kilometres long and starts and ends in Vransko.

Another route is called V2 – Po poti vranske kulturne dediščine. It is 14.9 kilometres long and leads from Vransko via Tešova, Brode with a hop field, Stopnik, Prekopa, Čeplje and Brode back to Vransko.

Sport

Sport climbing is offered as a sporting activity at Športna dvorana Vransko. Športna dvorana Vransko is accessible to people with reduced mobility.
