Discover Naklo: Hotels between Cycling Routes and Culture

The Basic Cycling Circuit starts in front of Naklo Primary School and leads via Naklo, Strahinj, Duplje, and Podbrezje back to Naklo. The route is 16 km long and takes about 60 minutes without stops. This creates a clearly defined route whose course connects several places.

Cycling

In the municipality of Naklo, the Kranj–Polica–Okroglo–Duplje cycling route, measuring 12 km, and the Naklo–Udin Boršt–Naklo cycling route, measuring 12.5 km, are also marked. Along these routes there are three bicycle rest areas in total. They include four tables, eight benches, and two information boards; there is also a horse tie-up facility with a drinking trough and two double waste bins.

Nature

The Na Okroglo excursion starts at Naklo Primary School and leads via Dobrava to the village of Okroglo. It is 2 to 3 km long and takes about 20 minutes, plus an additional hour for sightseeing. Below Okroglo, groundwater emerges from a conglomerate wall and deposits lime on moss. The Kriva jelka forest reserve is also located in the municipality of Naklo, with an entrance information board and a marked short visitor trail.

Naklo lies at an altitude of 407 metres in a dry valley through which the Tržiška Bistrica once flowed. The landscape thus combines a present-day settlement location with a river history described in geological and historical terms.

Culture

The Church of Saint Peter in Naklo dates from 1735 and is considered the town’s most significant cultural landmark. The history of the town is also closely linked to travel: Naklo was once a station for merchants, carters, and travellers. As a result, crafts such as blacksmithing and wagon-making developed there, as did the hospitality industry.

The Finfranje Festival takes place under the Kriva jelka near Spodnje Duplje on the second Sunday in May. The site was formerly associated with the gatherings of the Rokovnjači. The Slovene Ethnographic Museum assigns Naklo pri Kranju to the period from 1928 to 1947.

Further evidence of local cultural life can be found in various places. The Poličarjeva Farm houses an open-air museum of millstones, established in memory of the family of millstone makers and the highly regarded craft. The Pavlinova Gallery in Naklo holds exhibitions and presentations by local residents.

The Voglarjeva Circular Route starts at the old railway station in Naklo, next to a historic steam locomotive. The Church of Mary Magdalene stands on a hill below the manor house and is surrounded by a low wall. In Duplje there is a more than 200-year-old farmstead with an outbuilding and a shoemaker’s workshop. Today, as an ethnographic museum and cultural heritage monument, it comprehensively presents life in Duplje since the 18th century.

Regional Traditions

In the vicinity of Naklo, agricultural traditions involving buckwheat, buckwheat žganci, and sauerkraut have survived to this day. In Naklo, buckwheat, buckwheat žganci, and sauerkraut are associated with an agricultural culinary tradition that continues to this day.

The Naklo Biotechnical Centre offers guided tours of the estate. These last from 45 minutes to three hours and are accompanied by professors as well as trained pupils and students. In Bistrica pri Naklem, two ponds offer year-round fishing experiences for experienced and recreational anglers as well as families.
