Winegrowing

Meranovo is located above Limbuš on Prinčev vrh. The center is dedicated to research into winegrowing and winemaking and has a gene bank with more than 400 different grape varieties. Meranovo offers organized wine tastings for groups of 10 to 50 people. These include a tour of the estate and a visit to the hybrid exhibition “Archduke Johann, Father of Meranovo.”

Trails and Cycling Routes

The Pot na Meranovo is a 3.7-kilometer, approximately one-hour hike rated as less demanding. The hiking trail begins in Limbuš at the intersection of Ob Blažovnici and Pod gričem streets. It then leads over the hill where Lembach Castle once stood, along the Vrhov Dol ridge to Meranovo, offering beautiful views along the way. The combination of 3.7 kilometers, approximately one hour, and a less demanding rating makes the duration of this hike immediately clear.

History and Sacred Sites

Limbuš Castle stood on Grajski grič above the village of Limbuš in the Municipality of Maribor. Today, only castle ruins overgrown with green hills are visible. The Limbuš castle complex has been protected as an immovable monument of local importance since April 8, 1992.

The original Gothic church in Limbuš was built around 1300 and first mentioned in writing in 1387. The famous Grozdni Altar from the early 18th century is located in the Kronane glave chapel.

Landscape and Water

At the Drava Center in Limbuš, kayaks, canoes, SUP boards, and rowing boats are available for hire. Mariborsko jezero is designated as a protected landscape park; sailing, surfing, and rowing are possible on the lake. The southern shore is mostly forested and has shallow areas that are considered interesting habitats in and around the water.
