Culture and History

The catacombs in Malečnik were commissioned by the parish priest at the time, Dr Janez Sittich, in 1730. He served as parish priest from 1724 to 1759. Tours of the catacombs can be arranged with the parish by email or telephone.

The Church of Our Lady on Gorca was built in the Gothic style and stands at a 346-metre-high viewpoint. Another cultural site is the Glaserjev salon z galerijo. More than 20 paintings from the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries are displayed there. The salon is also used for chamber concerts, exhibitions, lectures, and various types of meetings.

Craft and historical details are also part of the character of the place. The oldest wine press in Malečnik bears the year 1848 and has three levels. At Studio Lončarstvo Roj Pottery, visitors can try out the potter’s wheel.

Trails and Landscape

Malečnik’s trail network has 40 signposts and an interactive map. It allows you to create individual routes or select recommended routes of varying lengths and difficulty levels. This means you can use both freely assembled and already prepared routes.

One explicitly named route is Po poti lepot in dobrot. It begins at Motel Črni Baron in Malečnik and follows a well-marked old pilgrim footpath to Gorca.

In Vodole, the smreka velikanka is considered a natural landmark of national importance.

Wine and Culinary Experiences

The Župnijska vinska klet offers culinary and wine-related experiences. At Fontana vin Vodole, visitors can walk between the barrels of local winemakers with a special chip glass and choose their own wine combination.

In addition to wine, Fontana vin Vodole offers a diverse culinary selection. This includes cold cuts from local producers, smoked pork knuckles, homemade cheeses, and vegetarian and vegan dishes.
