Culture and history

On the village square in Sela na Krasu stands the church “Cerkev Marijinega vnebovzetja”, which was first mentioned in 1753. A memorial to the Slovenian professor and journalist Filip Peric is also located on the village square. The old school building in Sela na Krasu was constructed in 1894.

Today, only the ruins of the former wall that surrounded Gradišče Podgrac are visible on the site. The former prehistoric Gradišče Podgrac is attributed to the Late Bronze Age and the Iron Age based on ceramic finds.

Walking and activities

The 5.2 km-long hiking trail of the Walk of Peace leads from Opatje selo via Nova vas, Županov vrh and Kremenjak to Sela na Krasu. The 5.2 km-long Walk of Peace hike to Sela na Krasu is part of the Path of Peace from the Alps to the Adriatic.

A 25 km-long circular trail for horseback riding leads through Sela na Krasu. From Sela na Krasu, the riding trail runs northwards along the route of the former military railway. A well-maintained gravel cycling and hiking trail leads to Županov vrh and to an 8-metre-high brick-built border guard tower of the former Yugoslav Army (JLA).

The sports park in Sela na Krasu offers opportunities to play football, basketball and bocce, as well as a playground for children.

Views

A forest path leads to the Vodarna Sela na Krasu viewpoint. A launch site for paragliders is located next to the Vodarna Sela na Krasu viewpoint. From the viewpoint, Trstelj, Kostanjevica, Temnica and the Cerje monument can be seen. Sela na Krasu offers views of the Adriatic.

The PZA Sela na Krasu motorhome stopover is located on the edge of the village. It has 14 pitches for motorhomes and offers views of the Adriatic.

Local cuisine

Osmica Pri Krčarju at Sela na Krasu 3, 5296 Kostanjevica na Krasu, is open twice a year. It offers cured meat products and homemade wine.
