Bohinjska Češnjica: Hotel, Juliana Trail and Otepanje

The “Zajamniki from Srednja vas” route passes through Češnjica on the return journey. In the village, it follows the narrow main road before joining a cycle path at the edge of the settlement. The Bohinj Cycle Path also has an existing section between Srednja vas and Bohinjska Češnjica. As a result, several types of route come together in the area: a long-distance trail that can be completed in stages, a route along the village road and a section of the cycle path.

The surroundings of Bohinjska Češnjica include several prominent landscape features. Brezovec, Črna Prst and Crni Vrh are nearby mountains; Viševnik is a nearby peak. Ajdovski Gradec, an ancient site, is located in the immediate vicinity of Bohinjska Češnjica. In the wider regional area are Stephans and Jurz, both ruins, as well as Finkenstein Castle Ruins.

Otepanje takes place in Bohinjska Češnjica on New Year’s Eve, 31 December. During Otepanje, masked boys visit every house, wish the residents a happy New Year and receive gifts in return. The custom combines a fixed date with house-to-house visits and a clearly defined role for those involved. The fixed date also makes it clear that this custom is tied to New Year’s Eve.

The memorial plaques are also among the village’s cultural points of reference. They commemorate 13 fallen members of the Bohinjska Češnjica volunteer fire brigade and 26 fighters and victims of the NOB.

A distinct experience is associated with the “Društvo kmečkih žena in deklet” association. At Bohinjska Češnjica 58, the association offers the guided experience “Kuhajmo po Bohinjsko”.
