Hotels in Kozina: Karst Trails and Industrial Heritage
Kozina leads into the Karst landscape along several trails while also preserving distinctive traces of former transport routes. Between Rodik, Klanec and the trails in the surrounding area, prehistoric sites, churches, technical heritage, easy hikes and cycling routes combine to create a diverse picture of the region.
Culture
Above Rodik lies Ajdovščina nad Rodikom, a prehistoric and ancient settlement on a prominent hill. Its settlement is documented for the 1st and 2nd centuries AD. The path there begins in Rodik and follows the trail towards Artviže to the prehistoric fortification.
In Klanec stands the Church of St Peter and St Paul, Cerkev sv. Petra in Pavla v Klancu, built in several phases between 1659 and 1670. A mighty linden tree also grows beside the church and has stood there for several centuries. The visitor centre of Beka Landscape Park in Klanec houses a technical museum with an old water pump used to supply steam locomotives. It also features a permanent exhibition on the park’s natural and cultural features.
Nature
Beka Landscape Park has the easy Beka–Botač–Beka circular route. It takes approximately two to three hours. Another trail connection is the Markovska pastirska pot: it leads from a new roundabout at the bunker past Felsen, Bezljak and Bičun and back to the roundabout. Along the route there are benches, marked rocks, railings and a small bridge.
Park Žaga is designated as a recreational open space in Kozina. Kozina also has a station of the destination’s automated e-bike rental system.
Trails
“Along the former railway track” is an easy hiking and cycling tour through the Karst landscape. Several former railway stations and railway facilities have been preserved along the former railway line, including tunnels carved into the rock. The route is considered a unique monument to industrial heritage. It runs from Kozina to Trieste and vice versa.
The “On the flysch and limestone” trail begins in the area surrounding Kozina and leads back to Kozina. It is suitable for trekking and mountain biking. The Friendship Trail connects Bagnoli della Rosandra (Boljunec), Botač, Beka and Ocizla. In the Glinščica Valley area, this trail follows a historic salt-trading route that was used for many centuries by merchants from Carniola.
Points of Interest
The visitor information centre of Mitski Park is located at Rodik 6, 6240 Kozina. It provides information about the Municipality of Hrpelje–Kozina, the surrounding municipalities and tourist attractions in the area. TIC Hrpelje–Kozina is located at Hrpelje, Reška cesta 14, 6240 Kozina.
A city pavilion with a flat green roof is planned at Mestni trg. It is intended to provide space for a tourist information centre; the pavilion should therefore be understood as a planned project, not as an already existing facility.
Events
