Tomaj: Hotels between culture and karst landscape

The Church of St. Peter and Paul in Tomaj is a cultural monument of local importance (EŠD 4071). Its exterior is modeled on late Gothic architecture and already shows Renaissance influences. The interior features two side marble inlaid altars, Rococo stucco on the ceiling of the nave, and paintings by Mara and Tone Kralj.

Another cultural site is the Kosovel Homestead. It was the home of the Slovenian avant-garde poet Srečko Kosovel and his family. The homestead houses a memorial collection dedicated to the Kosovel family. The renovated Kosovel Homestead is also a modern venue for cultural, educational, and tourism-related content.

The Kosovelova Trail is marked and easy to walk. The trail is 7 km long and takes about two and a half hours at a leisurely pace. Tomaj–Tabor is a prehistoric hillfort settlement and an early medieval burial ground. An ancient settlement has been documented in the center of Tomaj–Tabor, next to the church. Tomaj–Tabor can be reached via a village road that leads through the settlement to the Church of St. Peter and Paul.

At the Škerlj wine cellar in Tomaj, you can taste its wines and homemade air-dried meat products, including prosciutto. The Petelin-Rogelja farmstead offers a visit to its wine cellar with a wine tasting and a snack.

A visit to the Petelin-Rogelja farmstead also includes an introduction to the family history dating back to 1640. Old documents relating to the Karst's wine-growing and winemaking tradition are also displayed there.
