Žaga – Waterfalls, Hiking Trails and Culture

Near Žaga lies Boka Waterfall. It is 144 metres high and 18 metres wide in total and is the most water-rich waterfall in Slovenia. The size specifications distinguish between total height and width; the classification as the most water-rich waterfall expressly refers to Slovenia.

Nature

The Učja Valley, located nearby, is part of the Natura 2000 network. Also nearby, Zipline Canyon Učja offers a ride over 10 zip lines. The zip lines are 250 to 600 metres long; the ride takes place up to 250 metres above the ground. The lengths therefore range from 250 to 600 metres, while the height is stated as the maximum above the ground.

Hiking

The route to Globoški potok Waterfall begins in Žaga. Globoški potok Waterfall has multiple tiers, and the route offers views of Žaga and the deep, steep Učja Gorge. The hike there is an easy 3 km out-and-back route. The round trip takes approximately one hour. The starting point of the Globoški potok trail is at the bridge about 1 km before the centre of Žaga. The upper waterfalls on Globoški potok extend the tour by approximately 20 minutes.

The Kobarid–Bovec stage of the Juliana Trail is classified as easy and is 22 km long. Near Žaga, the Juliana Trail leads to a viewpoint below Boka Waterfall. The Alpe Adria Trail can be hiked from Bovec to Globoški potok.

Cycling

The Stol Route leads from Žaga towards the Učja Pass. The Stol Tour follows a scenic ridge trail on Mount Stol. The Stol mountain-biking route passes through Žaga.

Culture

In the centre of the village of Žaga, the Spomenik žrtvam NOB na Žagi monument stands on the main Žaga–Bovec road. It contains a list of 21 war victims. The monument was created by the sculptor Negovan Nemec and unveiled on 22 July 1978.
