Kal-Koritnica – Hotels, Čelo, Svinjak and Soča

The Čelo Open-Air Museum on the slopes of Mount Svinjak features Austro-Hungarian defensive positions. The main section consists of a 200-metre-long trench connecting two gun emplacements, a kitchen, an observation post, sleeping quarters and a shelter.

Culture

From Kal-Koritnica, the Čelo Open-Air Museum can be reached via two paths marked with Walk of Peace signposts. From Kal-Koritnica, one path leads to the open-air museum after an ascent of around half an hour. The monument in Kal-Koritnica commemorates those who fell at the Golobar mountain pasture. The local community of Kal-Koritnica maintains the monument and organises memorial events for the fallen.

History

Mount Javoršček reaches an elevation of 1,557 metres and was an important Austro-Hungarian defensive position. From Kal-Koritnica, the route leads to Mount Javoršček, following the Walk of Peace signposts towards Golobar.

Hiking

A marked trail to Svinjak begins in Kal-Koritnica and leads uphill from the meadows into the forest. The route to Svinjak from Kal-Koritnica is described as a five-hour round trip.

Nature

A thematic nature trail follows the emerald-green Soča River and provides information at various stations about nature, fish species and the importance of environmental protection. The Fisherman's Trail leads to the Soča and the Breka Pond.

Activities

The Ribiška hiša is located in Kal-Koritnica in a building that was formerly the village dairy. It features an interactive exhibition on fly fishing. Visitors can try out the basics of fly fishing in a specially designed practice pond at the Ribiška hiša. A moderately difficult mountain-bike loop runs via Bovec, Kal-Koritnica and Čezsoča before returning to Bovec.

The Kal-Koritnica sport climbing area comprises 33 routes with difficulty ratings from 4a+ to 7b. It can be reached from a car park on the main road in the village via a 10- to 15-minute path.
