Koseč: Koseška Gorges and the Church of Saint Justus

The Koseška Gorges lie below Koseč. They are up to 60 metres deep. A 3.3-kilometre trail runs through the Koseška Gorges, with its circular route beginning in Koseč near Drežnica.

Nature

A well-maintained circular trail passes numerous waterfalls along the Stopnik stream. Along the Koseč route, the Stopnik stream forms four waterfalls more than 20 metres high.

Along the way

Because they are very difficult to access, only the section of the Koseška Gorges that has been developed for visitors is accessible. On the route through the Koseška Gorges, steel cables are used to leave the streambed. The circular route offers a rest stop at the energy points. On the way back, you can stop for refreshments at the Kranjc tourist farm in Koseč.

Culture

The Church of Saint Justus in Koseč is listed in the Slovenian cultural heritage register as architectural heritage. Regionally, it is considered one of the oldest churches. It is also named as a stop along the circular route: the trail through the Koseška Gorges passes by the Church of Saint Justus.

Walk of Peace

The Kobarid–Kuhinja Mountain Hut stage of the Walk of Peace passes through Koseč. The village is therefore incorporated into this specifically named stage, whose designation identifies Kobarid and Kuhinja Mountain Hut as its endpoints.

Getting there

A hop-on hop-off bus connects Kobarid with Koseč in July and August. The seasonal connection is therefore clearly limited to these two months and complements the routes mentioned above with a specific connection between Kobarid and Koseč.
