Samur: Hotels and accommodations

Samur has an international customs checkpoint for cars and passengers traveling between Azerbaijan and the Russian Federation; the checkpoint also processes trucks. Those wishing to book a hotel in Samur can then continue searching for accommodation.

Geographical location

The Samur River flows through the Qusar Rayon, which is also crossed by the Samur–Absheron, Xanarxı, and Cağar-Cibir irrigation canals.

Nature

The Qusar State Nature Reserve covers 15,000 hectares and was established to protect and increase the populations of pheasants, partridges, deer, wild boar, and hares. The mountainous areas of Qusar include deciduous forests, springs, waterfalls, and small lakes.

Culture and handicrafts

The Qusar–Laza route allows visitors to see historical monuments as well as examples of applied folk art in the village of Aniq. On the Qusar–Sudur route, the 16th-century Sheikh Juneyd Mausoleum in the village of Hazra can be visited; the route also introduces visitors to applied folk art as well as local customs and traditions.

The Qusar Rayon is known for Sumaq carpets and woven wool clothing. The Qusar market offers handmade household items and national souvenirs made by local artisans. The Qusar State Art Gallery displays colorful works of art.

Activities

The Laza–Kuzun hiking route leads through the Qusarçay Valley with its cliffs, waterfalls, and open forests. The Shahdag Resort offers skiing in winter as well as hiking and cycling in summer. The Shahdag area offers hiking, cycling, and paragliding in both summer and winter. The Shahdag Resort also has 14 specially designated ski trails.

Cuisine

Local restaurants in Qusar and its surroundings serve Lezgian dishes. The Lezgian culinary tradition associated with the Qusar Rayon includes bread baked in a traditional xərək oven, Şakuka, and the meat pastry tskan.
