Herzegovina-Neretva Canton: Hotels and accommodations

Hutovo Blato is one of the canton’s two nature parks. The area lies on the left bank of the Neretva in the municipalities of Čapljina and Stolac and is considered one of the largest wintering grounds for birds in Europe. According to the methodology of the Ramsar Convention, Hutovo Blato is listed as a wetland of international importance.

Vjetrenica Cave near Ravno is considered one of the world’s most important and species-rich biodiversity hotspots for subterranean fauna. A visit to the cave takes 40 to 60 minutes and includes 600 meters of developed paths.

The area around Mostar’s Old Bridge is an outstanding example of a multicultural urban settlement featuring pre-Ottoman, Ottoman-Oriental, Mediterranean, and Western European architectural elements. The reconstructed Old Bridge and the Old Town of Mostar symbolize reconciliation, international cooperation, and the coexistence of different cultural, ethnic, and religious communities.

Konjic woodcarving is a traditional craft with a long history in the municipality of Konjic. Konjic’s old stone bridge is considered one of the city’s well-known symbols.

The Radimlja necropolis is one of the best-known medieval Stećak necropolises in Herzegovina; it is located 3 kilometers west of Stolac on the road from Stolac to Čapljina. The necropolis contains 133 Stećak tombstones, including 63 decorated examples featuring architectural, human, and animal depictions as well as motifs of grapevines, hunting, and weapons.

The historic site of Stolac’s Old Town was declared a national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2003. The old town of Križevac is a fortification on a hill above the present-day center of Stolac.

The Apparition Hill and Cross Mountain in Međugorje are each places for personal prayer and silence.

Neum has a long seafront promenade. The sheltered Bay of Neum, with its calmer sea, is suitable for a family holiday.

During a stay in Stolac, grilled trout and fig cake are mentioned as culinary stops after swimming or sunbathing.

The canton is connected to the port of Ploče by a direct railway link. Mostar Airport is licensed for international air traffic.
