Prozor – Mountains, Ramsko Lake and Cultural Monuments
Prozor lies between Makljen (1,370 m), Kolivrata (1,174 m), the slopes of Vran (2,074 m) and Raduša (1,456 m). The terrain around Prozor consists of limestone and dolomite rock. Ramsko Lake lies in the upper Rama Basin in the north of Herzegovina, in the area of today’s Prozor-Rama Municipality; it is surrounded by the mountain massifs of Raduša, Makljen, Ljubuša and Vran.
Nature and Trails
Sport fishing is practiced in the waters of Prozor-Rama Municipality, including Ramsko Lake and the municipality’s rivers. The “Cycling through Rama” program includes the marked Prozor–Here–Uzdol–Prozor cycling route. Thus, both the waterways and an established cycling connection are the focus of the activities mentioned in the municipality.
Culture
The Old Fortress of Prozor is a national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It comprises a fortification dating from the late Middle Ages and the Ottoman period. The site stands on the rocky Grad hill above the confluence of the ProzorÄŤica and Kraljevac stream. The protected area of the Old Fortress of Prozor is intended for public access as well as educational and cultural purposes.
Regional Culture
Šćit lies about 10 km west of Prozor. The Franciscan monastery and the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Šćit are a national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina. A road approximately 2 km long crosses an artificial dam and connects Šćit with the shore of Ramsko Lake. The Ethnographic Museum in Šćit is housed in the old building of the Franciscan monastery, which was built in 1857. Through exhibitions on traditional crafts, agriculture, means of transport, domestic culture and textile production, the museum presents the life of the people of the Rama region.
Archaeology and Religious Buildings
The first archaeological exhibition in Prozor-Rama Municipality was set up on 15 October 2025 at the entrance to the municipal building. In addition to finds from Rama, the permanent exhibition “New Archaeological Research in Rama” includes material from the Prozor site. On weekdays, the exhibition was listed as open for viewing from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Čaršijska džamija in Prozor is included on the tentative list of national monuments of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Sahat-Kula in Prozor dates from around 1700. The stained-glass windows in Prozor parish church were created by the academic painter Ante Mamuša. Prozor Parish was founded in 1906; the new parish church of Prozor Parish was completed in 1968.
