Međugorje: Hotels, Pilgrimage Sites and Karst Landscape

The pilgrimage site includes an outdoor altar built in 1989. The surrounding prayer area offers approximately 5,000 seats. The Blue Cross is located at the foot of Apparition Hill; it was erected there in 1985. Information boards have been installed at the three sites of Apparition Hill, Cross Mountain and the Blue Cross.

Along the path leading up Apparition Hill, bronze reliefs depicting the Joyful and Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary were installed in 1989. Cross Mountain is a 520-meter-high mountain above Međugorje. On 15 March 1934, parishioners erected an 8.56-meter-high concrete cross on it. A steep path leads from the houses to the site of the apparitions. The Stations of the Cross on Cross Mountain are marked by bronze reliefs installed in 1988.

St. James Parish Church also has a long construction history: construction work lasted from 1934 until its consecration on 19 January 1969. Another cultural focal point is the Muzej Naša Majka. It is the first museum in the area of the municipality of Čitluk and Međugorje and has been a new cultural and artistic center since April 2022.

The Muzej Naša Majka uses digital technology, holograms and video projections to present Brotnjo and the history of Brotnjo and Međugorje. The sculpture Ruke by academic artist Josip Ivešić is located in the square in front of the museum.

Međugorje is located in a Herzegovinian karst landscape. This landscape setting complements the religious and cultural sites that make the character of the destination visible.

A direct connection to the regional wine scene is offered by Vinarija Dodig at the Međugorje Sports Center. There, visitors can taste Žilavka, Žilavka selekcija, Blatina, Trnjak, Blatina Riserva, Oranž, Rose, Bordo kupaža, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Plavac.
