Donje Vardište: Hotels, Monastery and Ćiro Railway

At the Monastery of the Ascension of the Lord, the associated church was built between 1991 and 1994 and consecrated in 1996. The monastery itself was founded in 2006 by decision of Metropolitan Nikolaj as the first convent in the Metropolitanate of Dabar-Bosnia. Regular services are held at the monastery on Sundays and feast days. Natural remedies are sold in the church shop.

At the Monastery of the Ascension of the Lord in Vardište, Spasovdan was celebrated as the Krsna Slava. During the Spasovdan celebration, the liturgy was followed by the breaking of the Slava bread and a procession around the church.

The memorial chapel in Vardište, beneath which the ossuary is located, was built in 1931 and consecrated on Vidovdan 1932. The chapel commemorates 440 Serbian officers, soldiers and volunteers who fell or died of typhus in 1914–1915. The memorial ossuary in Vardište is a protected cultural asset of Republika Srpska and commemorates the sons who fell in the First World War and their comrades.

On 11 March 2026, the replacement of old and damaged sleepers was underway along the Vardište–Višegrad line as part of its tourism-oriented revitalisation. At present, only special services are offered, for which tourist groups book the entire train.
