Lužani: Local Sports, Culture and Hotels

In the Gradiška city chess league, the year 2020 comprised twelve teams from local communities, including Lužani. The town also hosted the FIDE-rated Gradiška rapid chess championship. The “Lužani” sports club has eight sports sections: athletics, cycling, table tennis, shooting, mini football, volleyball, darts and chess.

The sports center in Lužani includes football and volleyball pitches, parking areas, and paths for recreation and cycling tours. The Lužani Sports and Leisure Center is a meeting point as well as the start and finish of the Vidovdanska Family Cycling Tour. The third Vidovdanska Family Cycling Tour was scheduled to take place in Lužani on a Sunday, June 29, at 9 a.m. Eighty people of all generations took part in the fourth Vidovdanska Family Cycling Tour; the route led through numerous streets of the settlement and ended back at the Lužani Sports and Leisure Center after eight kilometers.

As part of a summer program organized by the city of Gradiška, Lužani presented old customs, traditional sports and culinary skills. In Lužani, the traditional lighting of Mašale was announced for July 11, before Petrovdana.

The sixth Kotlićijada in Lužani took place at the Sports and Leisure Center. The Kotlićijada in Lužani featured competitions in the categories of hunting stew and fish stew. The “Lužani 2023” Kotlićijada attracted more than 500 visitors.

Mini football is also one of the town’s recurring event themes. The “Lužani” night-time mini football tournament reached its third edition in 2021. In 2024, the same “Lužani” night-time mini football tournament reached its sixth edition.

For practical amenities along the highway, there is the “Lužani istok” rest area, with fuel, a restaurant, sanitary facilities, parking for cars and trucks, and an area for recreation and leisure. This should be distinguished from the “Lužani” rest area on the Gradiška–Banja Luka highway: it is planned to include ancillary services and gas stations for construction, operation and maintenance.
