Veljaki: Hotels and Accommodation

The wider Kršan area is home to the medieval Kršan Castle, the Glagolitic inscription in Plomin, Kožljak Castle, and Romanesque church heritage with 15th-century frescoes. Those wishing to book a hotel in Veljaki can then continue their accommodation search.

Culture

The Vlaški puti Ecomuseum in Šušnjevica combines an interpretation centre, a media library and themed hiking trails through Učka to showcase local social history, traditional culture, and the Vlaški, or Istro-Romanian, language and culture.

Nearby, the medieval Kaštel Kožljak stands at an elevation of 210 metres on a steep cliff above the former Lake Čepić. The access staircase and sections of the defensive wall have survived from the complex. Učka Nature Park directs visitors there via the road from Vranja towards Šušnjevica and then onwards to Kožljak.

The themed Putevima kontrabanda trails run through Učka Nature Park, introducing visitors to smuggling in the 1930s from the former Kvarner free-trade zone. The Romanesque Church of St Quirinus in Jasenovik has a well-preserved fresco on its north wall depicting the Adoration, along with figures of apostles, saints and prophets.

The Kršan Kaštel preserves a tall, four-sided tower within a defensive and residential complex with a cistern courtyard. Kršonski pir is a nine-scene folk depiction of a wedding custom from Kršan and its surrounding area, ending with the baptism of the couple’s child. The performance includes a wedding procession, setting off for church, communal meals and a wedding celebration with the symbolic breaking of a cake.
