Culture and Customs

St. Joseph’s Church in Brešca is affiliated as a filial church with the parish of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Veli Brgud. Electric liturgical Johannus organs were acquired for the church; new liturgical organs were blessed and put into service there.

The traditional Zvonejski Bell Ringer’s Procession connects Zvoneća with Brešca and Zaluki. The Rukavački Bell Ringer’s Procession also passes through Brešca on its way home; it can be awaited at Mučićeva ravna. The Matulji Bell Ringer’s Gathering traditionally takes place on Carnival Saturday and presents bell-ringer groups that preserve centuries-old customs. Matulji’s traditional bell-ringer parade has been held since 1995. At the Matulji Bell Ringer’s Gathering, visitors can enjoy traditional carnival specialities such as homemade sausages, maneštra, goulash and fritule.

Nature and Routes

Route 117 is a 30-kilometre trail and also a circular cycling route with approximately 560 metres of elevation gain. It passes through Breški Dol, a sinkhole in Brešca, and is part of a larger landscape route. In the sinkhole, changing shade conditions, humidity, temperature and depth create vegetation zonation. An area of approximately 13.19 hectares has been proposed for protection as a botanical reserve. The route also passes through the protected landscape of Zvonejske Njivi and leads into the protected landscape of Lisina.

The “Lipo j' vino pit!” cycling route passes through Brešca between Mali Brgud and Zaluki.
