Routes

Route 117 is a 30-kilometre cycling loop with 560 metres of elevation gain through the protected landscape of Zvonejske njivi. The route follows the old Žejane–Bukvina–Zvoneća road and then heads towards the terraces of Zvonejske njivi above Perka. Lisina is also a junction of hiking traverses, including Gomila, Vodička Griža and Vodice.

Nature

The Lisina park forest extends across Zvoneća and Gornji Rukavac and has been protected as a significant landscape since 1998. In the forested karst landscape of Lisina, the Vodice spring forms a small freshwater habitat. Zvonejske njivi is a landscape of terraced plots of land covering around 60 hectares, protected as a cultural monument.

Culture

The terraces of Zvonejske njivi were historically a centre of winegrowing and were designated a cultural monument in 1994. In the centre of Zvoneća stands the single-nave Church of Saint Anthony the Abbot, dating from the 19th century.

Antonja, the main festival of Zvoneća on 17 January, marks the beginning of carnival and the bell-ringer processions. During their traditional procession to Rukavac, the Zvonejski zvončari wear flower hats, sailor shirts, white trousers, sheepskins and three bells. The Zvonejski zvončari belong to the local bell-ringer groups included on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Antonjica on 13 June is Zvoneća’s most important summer festival and commemorates Saint Anthony of Padua. On Shrove Tuesday, the Zvonejski zvončari also hold a less formal procession through Zvoneća in different costumes. The annual Mića zvončarska smotra is organised by Udruga Zvonejski zvončari under the patronage of Općina Matulji.

Food and wine

Jazz na Njivah has been held in Zvonejske njivi since 2021 and has reached its sixth edition. The festival uses the well-maintained fields and vineyards of Zvonejske njivi as a natural concert stage. At Jazz na Njivah, OPG Ružić from Zvoneća serves local jarbolica. The cycling tour Lipo j' vino pit! includes a Jarbola tasting at OPG Jarbola in Zvoneća. Jarbola is a traditionally cultivated, indigenous grape variety associated with Zvoneća and protected as a grape variety in the Croatian Littoral subregion.
