Nerezine: Hotels and Accommodation

Culture

The Church of Saint Mary Magdalene in Nerezine was built at its present location in 1534. It also houses a permanent exhibition with 11 models depicting traditional island life. These include olive oil production, boat maintenance, sheep wool processing, fig products, sheep's cheese and a wine cellar.

Nerezine's maritime heritage is evident in its historic harbour. It developed through fishing, maritime transport and trade; at the beginning of the 20th century, the town's merchant fleet comprised 37 ships. Kula Kolana Draže in Nerezine is protected as cultural heritage.

The Franciscan Church and Monastery of Saint Francis were built between 1505 and 1513. The Renaissance bell tower of the Franciscan complex was built between 1590 and 1604. Galerija Uljara Tuorić is located in a former 16th-century oil mill.

Nerezine's traditional sailing boat regatta was held from 1920 to 1942 and from 1954 to 1966, and has taken place again since 2011. The recurring cultural programme Ljeto u Uljari includes art exhibitions, workshops for children and adults, and music events.

Nature

The summit of Osoršćica offers views of the Lošinj Archipelago, Istria, Velebit, Gorski kotar and Triglav, as well as the islands of Rab, Pag and Silba. The Cave of Saint Gaudentius lies below the summit of Televrina on the eastern side of Osoršćica.

Vela Jama is a large cave on the western side of Televrina, where traces of human activity dating back up to 10,000 years have been found.

Hiking and Climbing

The climbing routes of Osoršćica are divided into three sectors: A, B and C. The climbing area comprises 30 routes with difficulty ratings from 4 to 8; the maximum route length is 30 metres.

As part of the Green Trails project, 20 kilometres of hiking trails and 10 kilometres of cycling paths are being improved in Nerezine. The Green Trails routes connect to the Osoršćica mountain traverse and link Nerezine with Osor.
