Nature and Trails

Unije offers approximately 30 kilometres of trails on gravel, dirt and rocky terrain, suitable for hiking and mountain biking. From the village, trails lead to Unijsko polje, Maračuol Bay, the viewpoint at Cape Hartina, the lighthouse at Cape Vnetak, Cape Arbit, Goligna Bay and Vele Stijene. Goligna has two pebble beaches and offers views of Osoršćica, Ustrine, Žeća and Martinšćica.

Vele Stijene are high cliffs on the western side of Unije. They can be reached from the village via a walk of approximately one hour.

Bays and Sea

Unije village beach is just a few minutes’ walk from the settlement. The island’s bays are suitable for swimming, diving, fishing, snorkelling and sailing.

Getting There and Everyday Life

Boats connect Unije with Mali Lošinj. Catamarans also operate from Rijeka, Pula and Zadar. There are no cars on the island; visitors explore it on foot or by bicycle. A small airport connects Unije with Lošinj.

Culture and Cuisine

The village church of Saint Andrew is considered a landmark of the island. It was originally built in the 15th century and is also described on the official visitor route as the island’s patron church.

In the local taverns, squid is prepared in various ways. In November, Unije hosts the squid-fishing competition Unijska lignjada. Maračuol was formerly the site of a fish factory and is now an anchorage for boaters and sailors.
