Culture and History

The Museum of Apoxyomenos is located in the Kvarner Palace on the waterfront in Mali Lošinj and is intended to be the permanent home of the statue of Apoxyomenos. Visitors can reach the museum on foot; it has no parking spaces, while municipal parking is available. The exhibition leads through nine scenes and transitional zones into a final room containing the bronze sculpture.

The Palača Fritzi displays the Piperata Old Masters Collection. It was rebuilt as a historicist palace at the end of the 19th century, after the first municipal administration of Mali Lošinj had been located on this site.

In front of the Museum of Apoxyomenos in Mali Lošinj lies the Lošinjski loger Nerezinac, an interpretive center for maritime heritage. The exhibition covers the crew, provisions, cargo, maritime routes, and shipbuilding. Nerezinac is a protected cultural asset of the Republic of Croatia.

Water and the Underwater World

Water activities associated with the Mali Lošinj area include kayaking around Koludarac, scuba diving, sailing, windsurfing, and windsurfing and sailing lessons. The underwater archaeological park in Mali Lošinj comprises eleven exhibits installed at depths of five to 15 meters. Licensed divers and non-divers can visit the park as part of the instructor-led “Discovery Dive” program.

Nature and Culinary Experiences

The Miomirisni Otočki Vrt contains more than 250 species of wild aromatic plants. Visitors can sample local foods there; guided visits are also offered, during which the island’s flora and the medicinal properties of the plants are presented.

Around Mali Lošinj, many bays have low, accessible shores that are predominantly rocky and feature sections of white gravel. Providenca offers the self-guided interpretive tour “Lošinj – Island of Captains”. The offering also includes the Gastro & Heritage Experience “Picnic at the Captain's Table”, which combines island cuisine with Lošinj’s maritime heritage.
