The ruins of Říčany Castle stand on a spur above Mlýnský rybník and the former Lázeňský rybník ponds on the Říčanský stream. This is where the town’s history begins, at a distinctive site where the castle remains and bodies of water are closely connected.

Culture and History

The Church of St. Peter and Paul preserves Gothic masonry, the base of a former tower with a cross-ribbed vault, and remnants of frescoes dating from around 1400. The Marian column in Říčany dates from 1699 and is considered the second-oldest Marian column in Bohemia.

Nature

The Říčany Geopark displays large specimens of granite, basalt, sandstone, and limestone, as well as fossils and a petrified tree. Visitors can also pan for garnets, explore a cave, and discover fossils there.

The Říčany Astro Trail connects the geopark and the museum in the form of a walk through a scale model of the solar system. It is accessible at any time on foot or by bicycle.

Trails and Games

The Říčansko educational trail is about 9 km long and has 18 stops. It begins in Říčany near the ruins of Říčany Castle and can be explored on foot, by bicycle, in sections, or with children.

The geolocation game “Za pokladem do středověkých Říčan” begins at Říčany Castle in the town center. It is aimed primarily at parents with children aged 8 and over and follows an approximately 2 km route through busier and quieter parts of the town.
