Želenice: Hotels and accommodations

In the center of Želenice, the church complex consists of a single-nave church, a wooden bell tower, and a perimeter wall around the cemetery. The church, bell tower, and wall are protected heritage sites. The Church of Saint James the Greater was originally Romanesque and dates from the 12th century; it was later altered during the Gothic period and in the 17th and 19th centuries. The wooden bell tower stands in the center of the municipality and, together with the Church of Saint James the Greater, is considered one of its landmarks.

Culture and townscape

A comprehensive restoration of the Church of Saint James the Greater in Želenice in 2013 enabled a more detailed examination of its largely preserved Romanesque nave. The masonry consists of alternating rows of sandstone and marlstone blocks.

The Želenice bell tower probably dates from the 16th century and is considered a relatively rare example of a Renaissance bell tower. It is a hexagonal wooden tower on a stone base with a mansard roof. It houses two bells cast in 1581 and 1613.
