The Předliška archaeological site gives Hrdlořezy a distinctive historical character. This insight is complemented by the chapel on the village square, various cycling and hiking routes, and the local sports complex.

History and Culture

Předliška is situated on a spur of land 56 metres above the course of the Jizera. A transverse rampart encloses an area of approximately 6 hectares there. The fortified site near Hrdlořezy is considered one of the oldest fortified sites in the Mladá Boleslav region. Předliška was probably a cult site of the Únětice culture.

Finds at Předliška provide evidence of settlement in the Stone Age, the Bronze Age, and the Middle and Late Hillfort periods. The site is protected as a monument and freely accessible. A path rising towards the northwest leads to it from the northern edge of Hrdlořezy. At a rocky slope, the path branches off to the right, or northeast, towards the Předliška farmstead.

The chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk dominates the historic village square of Hrdlořezy. Václav Tarantík is part of the village’s more recent history: During the Second World War, he served with the 1st Czech bomber squadron in England and died on 13 July 1944 during a patrol flight over the Atlantic.

Cycling and Hiking Routes

Local cycling route No. 8157 runs from Mladá Boleslav-Debř via Hrdlořezy to Bukovno. The 40-kilometre cycling trip “Cyklovýlet Mladoboleslavským severem” also passes through Hrdlořezy. A green-marked hiking route leads through Hrdlořezy and onwards to nearby Mladá Boleslav.

For long-distance cycling route No. 17, the Greenway Jizera, municipal planning in Hrdlořezy envisages relocating the route to a new planned combined pedestrian and cycling path in the Jizera floodplain.

Sports and Children's Area

The Hrdlořezy sports complex offers tennis, nohejbal, volleyball, hockeyball, basketball, and small-sided football in particular. The complex also includes a tennis practice wall and a children's area with swings, a slide, and a sandbox.
