Petkovy: Hotels and Accommodation

In Petkovy stands the building “Sýpka – bývalá tvrz”, protected as an immovable cultural monument: a granary in a farmyard with the remains of a former fortress.

Culture and History

The municipality of Petkovy consists of the districts of Petkovy and Čížovky. Petkovy has been documented in written sources since 1393. The settlement was originally called “Petkov”. The name is derived from the personal name Petko, a diminutive of Petr, and in this designation meant “Petkův dvůr”.

Čížovky was first mentioned in 1382 under the name Čížová (“villa Czizowa”) as property of the Archbishopric of Prague. In 1556, Petkovy belonged to the Březno estate. The existence of the noble fortress of Skašov and its associated village was first mentioned in writing as early as 1255; Heřman z Bubna had a fortress built on the site of Skašov.

Traditionally, a witch-burning event takes place on 30 April at the sports field in Petkovy. It begins at 6 p.m. with a lantern procession from the local shop.

The Sudoměř–Stará Paka railway line was built approximately between 1902 and 1905.

Nature and Cycling

The 386-hectare Čížovky Nature Park, with its wooded areas, copses, old fruit trees, meadows and ponds, is located in the vicinity of Petkovy. Between Petkovy and Lhotky, the cycle route passes by Čížovky Nature Park.

A 22.1 km cycling tour leads from Dolní Bousov via Route No. 8148 to Rohatsko and Svobodín, then via Route No. 8147 through Petkovy, Lhotky, Kobylnice and Ledce to Jabkenice. The cycling tour passes through a gently hilly, wooded landscape.
