Hrusice is shaped by the Church of St. Wenceslas and the memory of Josef Lada.

Culture

The Church of St. Wenceslas in Hrusice is a late Romanesque church with an exceptionally richly designed, stepped portal. As an immovable cultural monument, it is listed in the Central Register of Cultural Monuments under registration number 15233/2-2070.

Near the Church of St. Wenceslas stands a bronze bust of Josef Lada on a tall stone pedestal. Near this memorial bust stands a small-leaved lime tree estimated to be more than 500 years old. A memorial plaque was placed in 1958 on the replacement house at the site of Josef Lada’s former birthplace; the birthplace had been demolished in 1932.

Josef Lada’s former villa in Hrusice now serves as a museum preserving his life, his unique illustrations and his literary contributions. The garden of the Památník Josefa Lady a jeho dcery Aleny Museum in Hrusice still includes Josef Lada’s original mushroom forest. At the rear of the garden is an arboretum of old fruit varieties established since 2009. Since 2010, it has featured sculptures with Lada-inspired themes: “Chlapec s káčou” by Tomáš Havlík, “Lampa” by Hana Nováková, “Pískoviště” by Pavel Charypar and “Lavičky” by Václav Mašek.

Trails

The Cesta kocoura Mikeše is a 25-kilometre route from Hrusice to Mukařov with 14 stops based on Josef Lada’s story about the cat Mikeš. The route is marked with white trail markers and 25 granite kilometre stones and can be divided into several daily stages.

The Pohádkové Hrusice educational trail begins and ends in Hrusice, is 4 kilometres long and includes six information panels about Josef Lada’s fairy-tale characters and stories.

You can park in the car park on the square by the church. Visitor toilets are available behind the villa, including an accessible toilet whose access code is stated on the admission ticket.
