Jirny is an important heritage conservation zone with a remarkable historic town center.

Culture and History

The Church of St. Peter and Paul stands on a hill in the center of Jirny. It is originally Gothic and dates back to the 14th century; it was first mentioned in 1350.

West of the Church of St. Peter and Paul stands a statue of Saint Judas Thaddeus, dated 1860. Until 1969, it stood at the intersection toward Horoušany and Nové Jirny; due to repeated damage, it was moved to the grounds of the Church of St. Peter and Paul.

The bell tower by the Church of St. Peter and Paul stands on the site of an older structure that was originally wooden and later made of stone, and presumably dates from the mid-14th century.

Jirny Château was built in 1844–1847 on the remains of the Old Château as a two-story building with a tower, gables, and battlements. It is closed to the public.

The Chapel of the Virgin Mary in Nové Jirny was built in 1914 in the Nové Jirny forest at a place called “V zadních dubinách.”

Nature

The “Naučná jirenská stezka” educational trail is an approximately 1.5 km circular route that begins and ends in Jirny at the intersection of K Lesu and Navrátilova streets.

Geographical Location

Jirny lies on the road connecting Brandýs nad Labem–Stará Boleslav with Úvaly and on the D11 motorway between Prague and Hradec Králové.
