Kamýk Nad Vltavou: Hotels and Accommodation

The former Vrškamýk Castle once served as a summer residence for the earliest Bohemian rulers. One of the most significant monuments in Kamýk nad Vltavou is the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary. An annual historical festival, Kamýcké prášení, is dedicated to preserving the old customs and traditions of Kamýk nad Vltavou and is regularly held at the end of August or beginning of September. It includes a historical procession through the town and contemporary performances near Vrškamýk Castle.

Manský dvůr No. 2 is considered a large, largely authentically preserved historical complex. Partially preserved cellars and two converted wings form part of the complex. The oldest masonry dates from the Late Gothic period; several portals and Gothic plasterwork on the northern perimeter wall have been preserved. During the Renaissance, the complex was extensively rebuilt and received sgraffito decoration and characteristic vaults.

The Jewish cemetery in the area preserves around 300 Baroque and Neoclassical gravestones, as well as a historic mortuary. It is located in the cadastral area of Dražkov and served the Jewish communities of Dražkov and Kamýk nad Vltavou. The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in Nový Kamýk, which has survived to this day, preserves essential parts of its original early Gothic form from the 13th century, including a rectangular chancel with a cross vault and massive stone ribs.

The ruins of Kamýk Castle, also known as Vrškamýk or Hunec, have visitor facilities and an information trail. Its building foundations were archaeologically examined and stabilised in 2009 and 2010. Kamýk Castle is continuously open to the public; access to the observation tower and souvenir sales depend on the operator’s capabilities.

As part of the Vltavská čára defensive line, a total of 64 structures were built here within a very short period. The first pillars of the Kamýcký Bridge were built in 1887, and an iron structure was installed on them.

A green-marked route from Kamýk nad Vltavou reaches the Vrškamýk Castle grounds after about 20 minutes. EuroVelo 7 runs through Kamýk nad Vltavou. The circular hike “Between the Kamýk and Orlík Reservoirs” starts and ends in Kamýk nad Vltavou. The Vltavská cyklistická stezka is designated as a named stage from Kamýk nad Vltavou to Prague.
