Klášter Hradiště Nad Jizerou: Hotels and Accommodation

The Klášter Hradiště nad Jizerou monastery was founded in 1145 and destroyed by the Hussites in 1420.

Culture and History

The monastery ruins were converted into a château and transformed into a brewery in 1852. The main portal of the original monastery has been preserved in the former monastery courtyard. The northern portal stands as a freestanding wall in the central part of the grounds; the stepped portal ends in a pointed arch and is richly decorated with plant motifs.

The Klášter Brewery has rock cellars almost 20 metres deep, where the beer continues to ferment and mature to this day. Tours of the Klášter Brewery are suspended until further notice for technical reasons.

Kostel Narození Panny Marie is a single-nave Gothic-Renaissance subsidiary church and is state-protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. The church was built around 1560 and preserves an early Gothic portal on the northern side of its nave. The surviving crypt and the covered fragment of the presbytery were reconstructed in 1997. The crypt was intended as a burial place for important members of the monastery; an archaeological investigation found graves carved into the rock there. The monastery crypt is accessible by prior arrangement; the keys can be borrowed from the municipal office.

Routes and Water

Cycle Route 223 runs via Svijany and Mnichovo Hradiště to Klášter Hradiště nad Jizerou. A 55-kilometre circular cycling route from Mladá Boleslav via Mnichovo Hradiště and back passes through Klášter Hradiště nad Jizerou and by its former château-brewery complex. A blue hiking trail follows a 17.3-kilometre, five-hour route from Mnichovo Hradiště to Klášter Hradiště nad Jizerou.

In the nearby area, the section of the Jizera between Mnichovo Hradiště and Mladá Boleslav is considered suitable for beginners and families; the four weirs on this section are not navigated. Near the Restaurace Skála brewery restaurant, there is an opportunity to launch a boat; a boat should be reserved in good time.
