History

Finds from the Late Neolithic period provide evidence of settlement in Bezno between 4500 and 4000 BC. Bezno Château was built in 1750 on the site of a medieval fortress as a late Baroque château.

Baroque Architecture and Sculptures

The Baroque settlement ensemble of Bezno comprises a newly built château, a rectory, and a converted church. The château consists of a two-storey main building with a central avant-corps topped by a pediment and featuring a balcony, as well as two two-storey, curved side wings enclosing a courtyard of honour. The château is not open to the public.

Baroque statues were installed around the significant buildings and in other locations in Bezno. The documented sculptural ensemble includes allegorical figures of the four seasons, as well as two statues of Venus Anadyomene and two vases.

Church and Religious Art

The Church of St Peter and Paul was built by E. Kondel between 1768 and 1769, replacing a medieval church building that had already been mentioned in 1369. It is situated on elevated ground opposite the château grounds.

The Calvary sculptural group is located by the church in Bezno. Public Masses are celebrated in the Church of St Peter and Paul every second Saturday of the month at 2:00 p.m.
