Kostelni Hlavno: Hotels and Accommodation

The Kostelní Hlavno lookout tower is an eleven-metre-high former military watchtower that was relocated there from Slánská hora near Slaný in 2011. It offers views of the Kokořínsko region, the Prague surroundings, Říp and the Central Bohemian Uplands. The tower is not freely accessible; it can only be climbed with a trained guide.

Culture and history

The present-day Church of Saint Peter in Chains has been mentioned since 1339 and was consecrated on 8 November 1807. The history of the village also includes the former Kostelní Hlavno fortress, which was built along two important historic trade routes. Archaeological remains of this former fortress, including masonry foundations, were discovered in the garden of House No. 11.

The memorial to those who fell in the First World War in Kostelní Hlavno was unveiled on 10 June 1923. It is the work of sculptor Emanuel Zentner and was created in Brandýs nad Labem. Local history connects the wayside niche chapel on the road to Hlavenec with the tradition that a leader from the time of the Thirty Years’ War is said to be buried there.

Cycling route No. 8156 runs through Kostelní Hlavno. The local connecting route No. 8156 links Hlavenec, Kostelní Hlavno, Mečeříž, Slivínko and Dolní Slivno. It branches off from the important regional cycling route No. 0039, which runs from Podbrahy via Hlavenec, Lhota and Křenek.
