Žernovka: Hotels and Accommodations

Žernovka combines a short educational trail with a distinctive village character and traces of its stonecutting tradition. The NS Mukařov-Žernovka educational trail ends at the fire station and children’s playground in Žernovka. It is approximately 1.5 kilometers long and accessible to pedestrians and strollers along its entire route; cyclists can also use it with appropriate caution regarding traffic.

Paths and Landscape

Cycle Route 0022 also passes through Žernovka and branches off here from Cycle Route 1 between Prague and Brno. The “V hranicích” forest section is particularly popular with mushroom pickers. Granite boundary stones are still found in the forest toward Doubek. This section is called “V hranicích”; the stones once divided estates.

Village Character and Craftsmanship

A unique granite bell tower stands beside the pond in Žernovka’s village square. To mark the centenary of the bell or the bell tower by the pond in Žernovka, its inscription was renewed. Žernovka was founded as a stonecutters’ village, and granite is still quarried in some local quarries today.

History and Memorial Sites

Žernovka is home to a monument to Abbot Arnošt Vykoukal and a memorial to those who fell in the First World War. The original name of the Kutnohorské stezky was “Zelená cesta.” Since 1994, firefighters from Mukařov or Žernovka have been responsible for maintaining the checkpoint at Jezírko in Žernovka.
