Doubravička: Hotels and Accommodation

Doubravička lies on a gently rolling plain that stretches to the foot of the 508-metre-high Vrátenská hora. Deep valleys border this plain on both sides. South of the village, the Košátecký stream winds its way through the landscape; it is regarded as a place to rest.

History

The origins of Doubravička are probably directly connected with a manorial fortress called “Na Zámku”. According to tradition, a royal road from Prague Castle via Stará Boleslav to Bezděz also passed through the village.

The former hillfort or fortress site in Doubravička is also associated with a major historical event: during the Hussite Wars, it was destroyed and burned down between 1425 and 1430. A later historical reference is provided by the Doubravička municipal chronicle. It was begun in 1923 and kept retrospectively from the end of the 19th century until 1951.

In earlier times, the area around Doubravička was covered by extensive forests and scrubland and crossed by numerous pools and small ponds. This historical description of the landscape complements the surviving traces of the village’s history.

Villagescape

At the entrance to Doubravička from Kovanec stands a newly built chapel. A cross stands in the central public square.

The architectural history can be seen particularly clearly at House No. 8. The building is a multi-storey farmstead with outbuildings and an unusually asymmetrically positioned upper floor. On the 1842 map of the Stable Cadastre, House No. 8 is documented as a wooden building.

Routes and Leisure

Doubravička lies outside the marked hiking trails. In the surrounding area, the nearest marked route leads from the railway station in Skalsko towards the Kokořínsko Protected Landscape Area.

In addition, there are numerous marked hiking and cycling trails around Doubravička, although no such route passes through the village. The village also has a sports field and a children’s playground.

Events

The local annual programme includes two regularly recurring events. The Maškarní ples, a masquerade ball, takes place every year on 14 February. This is followed on 24 May by Májové posezení, a convivial May festival.
