In the center of Obořiště are the Church of Saint Joseph and the Pauline monastery complex.

Culture

The Church of Saint Joseph has a floor plan consisting of three interlocking ovals. The Baroque church dates from 1712 and is attributed to Kryštof Dienzenhofer. The Baroque Pauline monastery complex in Obořiště was built between 1681 and 1712.

History

The former fortress in Obořiště was first mentioned in historical sources on June 4, 1425, in connection with a siege, and was subsequently burned down. No structural remains have survived; it is believed to have stood where the Nový rybník pond is located today.

Geographical Setting

The Pauline monastery complex is a defining urban element in the northwest of Obořiště. In the former Pauline monastery, only the Church of Saint Joseph is accessible. The northern part of the former monastery garden has remained comparatively well preserved, without more recent construction.
